7 Safety Tips for a Successful Road Trip.

Have road trip plans for this summer? Follow these tips to keep safe on the road!

As you journey to your destination, it’s likely you’ll lose cell service while traveling or once you reach your location. To avoid getting lost, download the area of the map you’ll be traveling through BEFORE leaving so you’ll have directions with or without service.

This is especially true if you’re traveling through the western United States, there is likely to be several miles between gas stations. As soon as you reach a half tank of gas, be diligent and stop at the next gas station you come across to fill up.

To the best of your ability, never let your phone die. To avoid this, keep a few fully charged battery packs on hand to use when you don’t have the opportunity to charge your phone in the car. My favorite battery packs are the Jackery solar powered battery packs and the Black-owned compact battery packs by Cargado!

If you don’t already have it, secure a roadside assistance service with your insurance provider or AAA. These services can save you from a flat tire, running out of gas, locking your keys in the car, or needing a tow. Expect the best, but be prepared for the worst!

Water is an absolute road trip necessity. In the event of emergency and you have to camp out on the side of the road for a while, make sure you have adequate amount of water for the day, even if you only plan to drive a few hours.

Go crazy with your favorite snacks, but make sure to have a well-stocked backup stash of food for your car and your backpack. Be sure to include powdered electrolyte packs or salty snacks.

In the event that you lose service and are in need of help, keep a practice of checking in regularly, updating people with where you are, informing them of your next stop and establishing your next check-in time.

Every good drive deserves a playlist! Download your favorite playlist to keep the music going if you lose service.

Hey Friends,

If you’ve made it this far, you’re awesome! These list of tips were inspired by my month long road trip through the American Southwest while living in this rented campervan named “Desperado”. During this trip, I traveled to five national parks, camped on public lands, and lived free and wild. I hope these tips are helpful!

Peace,

Diamon
